1. No Strings Attached The most recommended way to give a allowances for kids is to give it to them with no strings attached. You can start giving it to them as early as 4 years old if you want. The whole point of giving your kid allowance is so that they can learn responsible money management. Sure they might blow it the first few times they receive it, but then it is up to us as parents to teach them how to utilise their allowance. Ask them to save 20% of their allowance into either a small piggy bank at the start, or a savings account in the bank. If you start them early with good money habits, you will be doing them a great favour for the rest of their lives.

It shows them that nothing comes for free, that we all have to work for it. The harder and longer they work the more we give our kid money. This will motivate them to work. The thing we must think about here is that do the kids only do chores to receive an allowance? Should we not be teaching them that they should be doing chores regardless because they are family members. Also doing chores will give a sense of accomplishment in itself which can be more gratifying that receiving money as a reward? As a parent, you will have to decide what to do and what is best for them. Why not make certain chores mandatory, but some special chores you will receive an extra allowance from it?
