What Can Kids Buy With Their Allowance?
There are different ways that your child can spend on their allowance. Of course this can depend on their age, gender and interest. As parents the best thing we can do is to guide them to use and save their allowance wisely. When we give an allowance for kids, we want to teach them good money management.
ITEMS THAT THE CHILD CAN SPEND THEIR ALLOWANCE ON
1. Candy – A kids allowances can usually be spend the first few trips to the shops all on confectionary. Sure, let them spend it on what they like the first couple of trips, monitor what they are doing. After that, start explaining to them that they should start saving part of their allowance for bigger and more expensive toys and items which will bring a bigger satisfaction. Allowances for kids in this regard teach them how to save properly and how to plan ahead.
2. Clothes – As your children get older, they will want to spend more money on clothes. When they are young, you as the parent are sole provider to provide clothes for your child. But later on when they are older, giving an allowance for kids may involve giving them a clothing allowance which is separate from their usual allowance. You may give this amount to them monthly. This will teach them how to budget better and not use it all on the first 2 days they receive this.
3. Entertainment – Kids usually like to go to movie theatres. An allowance can be used here so they can socialise with going out with their friends.
4. Savings – The best to do with allowances for kids is to educate them on how to save and invest their money. This is so they can learn how to grow their money. If you start them early with this concept, this will be immensely beneficial to their lives later on.
5. Toys – Allow your children to buy toys when they receive their allowance. Just advice them that they should only use part of this for this purpose and the other part on savings. Kids should have fun, so just let them be kids!
6. Charity – One purpose of giving your kid allowance is to teach them how give themselves also. Explain to them that there are less fortunate people in this world and that we should be compassionate and help these people. Maybe ask your child to give 10% of their allowance to charities.
The above are just some of the most common ways that your child can use their allowance. At the end of the day, let them decide what to do with it and then guide them correctly what to do.
